National Standard for Tibetan Keyboard Layout

National Standard for Tibetan Keyboard Layout is another main criterion of Tibetan information technology, which gives a standard of Tibetan keyboard layout on computer keyboard and tries to unify Tibetan computer keyboard input method.

June of 2005, the Chinese Institute of Electronic Technology Standardization organized a national expert group to develop the national standard for Tibetan keyboard layout. After two years work, in May of 2007, National Standard for Tibetan keyboard was formulated. June of 2008, the National Standardization Management Committee officially issued the standard. The standard prescribes the layout of the alphanumeric region for Tibetan encoded character set. The standard is applicable to the keyboard of Tibetan computer systems and other related equipment. The standard number is GB/T 22034-2008.

In the process of formulating this Tibetan keyboard standard, yalasoo played a very important role. yalasoo was the original proposer of the standard. Our key member Tashi Tsering is one of the members of the research work team of the standard. For the completion of this standard project work, yalasoo played an important role.

With publishing of the National Standard for Tibetan Keyboard Layout, yalasoo was also about to finish the developing work of the Microsoft Tibetan Input Method for Microsoft based on this standard. Today, the Microsoft Tibetan Input Method that Tibetan users familiar with was developed based on the standard. It is the only IME that supports the standard for Tibetan keyboard layout.
