Microsoft Windows Tibetan System

January 30, 2007, it was an unusual day for Tibetan computer users around the world. On this day, Microsoft released to global markets its new OS Windows Vista and Office 2007 that fully support Tibetan language.

Windows Vista is the first computer operating system in the world that fully supports Tibetan language. Prior to this, no any operating system in the world supported Tibetan language from the system level. Microsoft continued its full support for Tibetan in the following OS Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.

The Tibetan language in Windows is fully based on Tibetan encoded character set of the international standard ISO10646 and Unicode. For the first time at the operating system level, it supports Tibetan language based on the international standard of encoded character set. It means a great impact to Tibetan community.

Windows has achieved the same level of processing for Tibetan as it does for English and Chinese. You can do the same thing for Tibetan language in Windows with the ones for English and Chinese, such as typing, typesetting processing, sending e-mail, building web site, developing software, and so on. Since then, Tibetan language in computer world and Internet has been on right track.

Relying on Microsoft's strong technical strength and market share, the Windows Tibetan system will create a new playground for the Tibetan information age.

Microsoft Windows Tibetan System is the result of a 3-year cooperation between Microsoft and yalasoo Tibetan Culture Heritage Promotion.
